The American flag is never suppose to touch the ground. If it does, one it supposed to burn it and then hang a new one in its place. This is a process followed by the white house, the military (both here and overseas) and generally most americans, however one student took exception to this rule and decided to do one of the most dramatic, symbolic things a person can do. A group of black students at Valdosta State University, wrote a letter to the schools dean, stating that because of the recent glorification of police killings and not guilty verdicts, that the american flag has now become a symbol of white supremacy and that they were going to protest. This image turned into a national story and many of the people who saw this said that they should be "curb stomped" or worse (although thats a hard to imagine fate). This incident is not only a controversy, but plays a part in a bigger controversy in the united states.
